Big Chief Jackets by James Houk, Styled by me, Maniac Magazine August 2012

Pittsburgh native and Carnegie Mellon Grad, James Houk, takes "kicking it old school" to a whole new level of Americana, drenched in all denim and leather. After landing a gifting spot at the 2012 Academy Awards Style lounge in LA, James's career gained notoriety from there on out, especially after selling at Fred Segal in California for ten years, as well as at Barneys.

I had the lovely honor to style Mr. Houk's jackets, and meet not only a successful man and professional in the fashion industry, but a down-to-earth Pittsburgher with a heart full of ambition. After getting my hands on these hefty pieces, it is safe to say i'm in the market for Nostalgic-Vintage-Cool this Fall!

  2. Great feature! James Houk’s denim and leather pieces really capture that nostalgic yet timeless vibe. It reminded me how style and design translate across industries — I was just reading about different light aircraft names, and it’s fascinating how both fashion and aviation celebrate heritage while pushing modern appeal.

  3. Really enjoyed reading about James Houk’s journey — from Pittsburgh roots to Hollywood recognition, that’s an inspiring path! The denim and leather Americana vibe sounds perfect for fall. On a different note, I recently came across a connecticut web developer who brings the same mix of creativity and professionalism into building standout websites. Just like fashion, the right digital design can truly set you apart.

  4. I really enjoyed reading about James Houk’s journey—it’s so inspiring to see a Pittsburgh native make such a strong mark in the fashion industry. The jackets sound incredible, especially with that mix of denim and leather that feels both vintage and fresh. Styling for a feature like this must have been such a rewarding experience! It’s a lot like the work of an event organizer company, where creativity, presentation, and behind-the-scenes effort all come together to create something memorable and impactful.
