Last week, I was invited to the Sachin + Babi Press Preview at their showroom in the Garment District.
What an exciting experience it was to meet the designers whose line is named after both of their first names, as well as having the opportunity to view such intricate, exotic fabrics in person, that would make any Textile Development major go mad, including myself. It was a intimate experience, having previously attended their show at Cedar Lake on September 11, this past Fashion Week.
Not only do their names connect them to their brand, but they are also married, and happen to be Alumni of the renowned, Fashion Institute of Technology. When I met Babi, and found out she graduated from TDM (Textile Development and Marketing),
which happens to be the major in which I earned my associates degree, we instantly connected over the exciting experience we each had learning the life of fabrics, and how to identify with them. Sachin, who graduated in Fashion Design, told me they had a wild experience while attending FIT in the 90s. An era I certainly wish I could experience in this city. They formed a relationship, which grew to be a partnership not only in love, but in the business of fashion too. They are both from India, and frequently travel back to produce and choose beautiful fabrics most suitable for Sachin + Babi designs.
You can purchase and sport these incredible, stand out pieces at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, Stay tuned for my piece on Sachin + Babi in the November Issue of MANIAC Magazine, on stands November 1!
Below is the Runway video from their latest collection during New York Fashion Week SS'13
